Step-by-Step Guide to YouTube Transcript Extraction

What You'll Need
- A web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
- The URL of a YouTube video
- A TranscriptX account (free to create)
Part 1: Creating Your Account
Step 1: Navigate to TranscriptX
Open your web browser and go to the TranscriptX homepage. Click the "Sign Up" button in the top right corner.
Step 2: Enter Your Information
Fill in your email address and create a secure password. You can also sign up using your Google or GitHub account for faster registration.
Step 3: Verify Your Email
Check your inbox for a verification email from TranscriptX. Click the verification link to activate your account.
Step 4: Access Your Dashboard
Once verified, you'll be redirected to your dashboard where you can start extracting transcripts immediately.
Part 2: Extracting Your First Transcript
Step 5: Find a YouTube Video
Go to YouTube and find any video with captions. You can check if a video has captions by clicking the CC button in the video player. Copy the video's URL from your browser's address bar.
Step 6: Paste the URL
In your TranscriptX dashboard, locate the search bar at the top. Paste the YouTube URL you just copied into this search bar.
Step 7: Click Extract
Click the "Extract Transcript" button next to the search bar. The extraction process typically takes 2-5 seconds depending on video length.
Step 8: View the Results
Once extracted, the transcript will appear on your screen. You'll see the full text with options to toggle timestamps, search within the transcript, and download in various formats.
Part 3: Customizing and Downloading
Step 9: Toggle Timestamps
Use the timestamp toggle switch to show or hide timestamps. This is useful if you only need the text content without time markers.
Step 10: Search the Transcript
Use the search function to find specific words or phrases within the transcript. This is helpful for long videos where you need to locate particular content.
Step 11: Choose Your Format
Click the download button and select your preferred format:
- TXT for basic text editing
- JSON for programming and data analysis
- SRT for adding subtitles to videos
- VTT for web video players
Step 12: Access Your History
All your extracted transcripts are saved in your history. Click the History tab in the sidebar to view and re-download previous extractions without using additional credits.
